Stampede in Shanghai

Luckily, the crowds and noise caused me to miss the ringing in of the new year on the streets of Shanghai. I turned back and went to bed in the hotel.

A stampede happened not far from where I was walking in the Bund T about 11:30 pm.

Many injured and killed.

Shanghai Safe Arrival

Landed at 6 30 pm, Customs and Immigration were a breeze with fast processing

Took the fast train ride from the airport doing 300 Km per hour, then negotiated the public metro train line. I managed to get to the hotel. I am staying at the Raddison New World just across the road from the train station. The local metro system is very good, and well signed in English. It will be much easier without luggage.

Just checked in and it is now 9:30 pm

It is about 7 degrees C, not as cold as I was expecting.

Not sure what the concept is with the locals wearing flashing neon devil horns to celebrate New Years Eve!

The streets are full, and the traffic is grid locked.

On the advice of Daisy Dai (my Chinese agent) I am going out for a stroll, wearing a warm coat, and only carrying some cash in my pocket.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM SHANGHAI
